Snow kite
Kite skiing, also known as snow flying is an awesome wind sport (moving with the pull of a kite or a sail). The size of the sail or kite traction differs according to wind strength and the weight of participants. The kite called "traction" is attached by a harness to the pilot and goes through a bar or kite line attached to them. They can measure up to 100 feet long.
Snow kiting is a sport that is practiced during the winter on frozen bodies of water or open snow areas. The kite flyers practice this sport either on skis (kite skiing), on a snowboard (snow kiting), in a buggy (kite buggying) or with a wing or sailboard. Snow kiting is practiced with varying degrees of difficulty and various challenges according to the person’s skill level. It can reach speeds of over 100km/h, in fact, up to three or four times faster than the wind itself.
The athletes who perform these sports often belong to groups, clubs or associations, which organize many trips within Quebec and abroad. There are also competitions that attract enthusiasts from around the world depending on the size of the event.
Kite skiing is a growing sport and has yet to explore all the possibilities in terms of potential sites and/or contexts in which it can be experienced. Kiting is also an enjoyable and social activity for the entire family to practice. The activity, which is thought of as “cool” by young people, often takes place at gatherings or festivals in various locations around the world.
